Safety Promotion on Preventing Fatal Accidents Caused by Being Caught in Tail Pulleys During Conveyor Belt Alignment Work
As of August 14, 2025, a total of 10 workers have died in major occupational accidents involving cutting or entanglement hazards nationwide—an increase of 3 deaths compared to 7 deaths during the same period in 2024. Among these incidents, the manufacturing sector accounted for the highest number of fatalities (7 deaths), followed by the construction sector (2 deaths).
Analysis of the circumstances shows that 8 workers were fatally injured during inspection, repair, or adjustment tasks, making it the most common scenario. Another 2 workers died due to inadequate protective devices on equipment.
Attached is a safety promotion document regarding a fatal occupational accident that occurred on January 13, 2025. In this incident, a worker was performing conveyor belt alignment adjustment when he was caught in the tail pulley, resulting in death.
The major contributing factors included failure to shut down the machinery during adjustment, absence of guards or protective enclosures, lack of emergency stop devices, and deficiencies in safety and health management.
To prevent similar incidents from recurring, all workplaces are urged to strengthen safety promotion efforts and ensure the implementation of comprehensive hazard prevention measures in order to protect worker safety.
