The identification period for occupational diseases has been reduced by 47 days - Ongoing efforts to minimize wait time for workers

Minister of Labor and Chairman of COAPRE, Hsu Ming-Chun, promised at the "The 3 Cs of Occupational Safety Carnival" in Kaohsiung to continue expediting the investigation and evaluation process for occupational disease identification (recognition) cases and reducing the wait time for workers. According to the latest statistics from the Occupational Injury and Disease Service Division (Injury and Disease Division) of the center, the time for occupational disease identification cases has been shortened by 47 days, with a 25% increase in professional investigation efficiency. The time for overwork case recognition has also been decreased by 14 days, with a 16.2% increase in professional assessment efficiency. In particular, since the initial announcement in May, there have been 9 additional overwork cases, and the assessment and recognition process has been further reduced by 2 days.

The Injury and Disease Division oversees the management of specialized institutions and network hospitals for occupational injury and disease treatment and diagnosis, promoting integrated services for occupational injury and disease treatment and diagnosis and enhancing the capacity for serving occupational accident workers. Currently, there are over 100 occupational injury and disease-related medical institutions across Taiwan, with approximately 300 outpatient visits per week. On average, this amounts to 60 outpatient visits a day for occupational injury and disease cases. As of late July this year, an average of 515 workers seek treatment every week, with a cumulative total of 15,448 visits during the period. In particular, there were 1,040 reported cases of occupational diseases and 2,727 cases of occupational injuries, diagnosed and managed by occupational physicians and case managers. The center also offers on-site assistance and occupational accident-related information, providing workers with tangible support and care.

The Injury and Disease Division is also committed to enhancing the quality of occupational disease diagnosis and treatment, as well as increasing the detection rate of occupational diseases. Furthermore, it performs quality reviews of reported cases and assists in the professional investigation, data collection, and evaluation of cases involving occupational disease identification. According to the latest statistics, the time for inviting professional occupational medical investigation teams to investigate and evaluate occupational disease identification cases has been considerably reduced. Occupational disease identification cases have been shortened by 47 days, with a 25% increase in professional investigation efficiency. In addition, cases of occupation-induced cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (overwork) have been reduced by 14 days, with a 16.2% increase in professional assessment efficiency. Compared to the data first published in May, there has been an addition of 9 new overwork-related cases with a further reduction of 2 days in the assessment timeframe, leading to a 2% increase in efficiency.
