Industrial safety alert: Beware of explosion hazards caused by the improper long-term storage of Isopropyl Alcohol.
Industrial safety alert: Improper storage of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA), including exposure to UV light or oxygen, may trigger the formation of Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP ). As a sensitive organic peroxide, TATP significantly increases the risk of spontaneous combustion and explosion.
The following safety requirements must be complied with by employers and employees
- Cleaning of IPA storage tanks requires a designated expert to establish formal operational procedures and sequences.
- IPA must be stored in sealed containers to prevent oxidation. Locations must be fire-safe and shielded from thermal stress and UV exposure.
- For any work elevated above two meters, scaffolding or platforms are required. Full compliance with safety systems such as harnesses and helmets is mandatory.
- Employers should formulate an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Management Plan. Employees handling hazardous chemicals are required to complete OSH training, carry out regular inspections, and wear PPE at all times during operations.
