2024 Local Government Services for Workers Suffering from Occupational Accidents
After a work-related injury or illness, the impact on the worker and their entire family is often profound. When such an incident occurs, many workers and their families are unclear about what rights they have, what social insurance or subsidies they can apply for, and what resources are available. This lack of understanding, coupled with limited experience, makes it difficult for workers and their families to navigate the situation.
At 62 years old, Mr. Shui suffered a fall at work, resulting in partial paralysis of both sides of his body and cognitive impairments. This forced him to take time off for recovery. Faced with his employer’s passive handling of the situation and refusal to take responsibility, his family’s financial situation was pushed to a crisis. In addition to the enormous medical and caregiving costs, they had to cope with the loss of Mr. Shui's work capacity, long-term care needs, and legal claims. For his family, this situation was overwhelming and left them feeling lost and helpless, struggling to find the right words.
Local government professionals provided crucial support, assisting with filing for legal aid, discussing the case with attorneys, and even accompanying the family to court for mediation. Throughout this process, the professionals guided Mr. Shui’s family in learning how to effectively use available resources and express their needs. At the same time, they connected the family with relevant resources to help resolve their challenges. For more detailed information, please refer to the attached document.
