The Ministry of Labor (MOL) and the Center for Occupational Accident Prevention and Rehabilitation (COAPRE) held the opening press conference for the “Weaving Light Together – Occupational Accident Worker Rehabilitation Special Exhibition” ahead of Labor Day at POPOP Taipei, Building F. Minister Hung Sun-Han attended in person, joining representatives from industry, government, academia, and workers in the opening ceremony to mark the launch of the exhibition. The exhibition aims to raise public awareness of Taiwan’s occupational accident protection system and the progress of its rehabilitation services.

Minister Hung noted that the implementation of the Labor Occupational Accident Insurance and Protection Act represents a major milestone in Taiwan’s occupational accident protection framework, establishing a comprehensive system that spans prevention before accidents, compensation after accidents, and post-accident rehabilitation. In recent years, the MOL has established dedicated rehabilitation centers and continues to expand networks of occupational rehabilitation hospitals and Professional Assistance Services (PAS). These efforts ensure that workers receive continuous and integrated support from the initial injury stage through medical rehabilitation, legal consultation, and eventual return to work.

More than a presentation of policy outcomes, this special exhibition uses immersive displays and personal narratives to help the public better understand the challenges workers face during recovery and reintegration. It also seeks to foster broader support from government, industry, and society in building a more inclusive and worker-friendly environment.

At the press conference, Ms. Lien, an invited speaker, shared her personal journey. At age 19, she sustained a spinal cord injury in a commuting-related occupational accident. After undergoing long-term medical treatment and rehabilitation, she has remained committed to helping others, drawing on her own experience to support fellow injured workers. Ms. Lien shared that despite physical limitations, she hopes to use her strength to help others. Her life journey reflects the exhibition’s message of rehabilitation, demonstrating the resilience and courage of workers who, even after serious injury or illness, continue to rebuild their lives step by step.

COAPRE stated that the “Weaving Light Together – Occupational Accident Worker Rehabilitation Special Exhibition” not only showcases institutional development and service outcomes, but also seeks to help the public understand that rehabilitation is not a journey individuals undertake alone. Rather, it requires coordinated support from systems, professional teams, and society to ensure every injured worker is supported. Only through greater understanding and collective support can safer and more inclusive work and living environments continue to be built.

The exhibition is open to the public free of charge from now until May 4 at POPOP Taipei, Building F. Businesses, workers, and members of the public are warmly invited to visit, learn about the importance of occupational accident prevention, and witness the growth and compassion of Taiwan’s occupational protection system.
